Day 2 – Exploring the Wonders of Assam

Begin your day early with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before setting out for a soulful visit to the Kamakhya Devi Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India, perched atop the Nilachal Hill. Spend some peaceful moments offering prayers and taking in panoramic views of the Brahmaputra River. Later, proceed to visit the Umananda Temple, located on the picturesque Peacock Island, the smallest inhabited river island in the world. A short ferry ride across the Brahmaputra River takes you to this serene spot, where spirituality blends beautifully with nature’s calm. By afternoon, begin your scenic drive towards Cherrapunji, renowned as one of the wettest places on Earth. En route, soak in the mesmerizing views of cascading hills, lush valleys, and misty clouds as you ascend into Meghalaya’s enchanting landscapes. Upon arrival in Cherrapunji, check in to your hotel and unwind after the long journey. Enjoy a warm dinner and prepare for an exciting day of exploration ahead.

DAY 3 – Cherrapunji Local Sightseeing – The Abode of Clouds and Waterfalls 

Wake up to the cool misty morning of Cherrapunji and enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading out to explore the natural wonders of this enchanting hill station.

Begin your day with a visit to the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India, offering breathtaking views from the cliffside viewpoint. Continue to the Mawsmai Cave, a well-lit limestone cave filled with fascinating rock formations. Next, visit the Seven Sisters Falls (Nohsngithiang Falls), where seven streams of water cascade down the limestone cliffs, creating a spectacular sight during the monsoon season. Proceed to the Garden Of caves , which offers sweeping views of the green canyons and the Sylhet plains of Bangladesh. In the afternoon, explore the Arwah Cave, known for its fossils and wide caverns, and then visit the Ecopark. As evening approaches, return to your hotel to relax and enjoy dinner amidst the tranquil and misty surroundings of Cherrapunji.

Day 4 – Excursion to Mawlynnong & Dawki

After breakfast, head out for a full-day excursion to Mawlynnong, renowned as “Asia’s Cleanest Village.” Wander through its flower-adorned lanes, see the bamboo dustbins, and learn about the village’s sustainable lifestyle. Visit the natural marvel, the Living Root Bridge, created from the intertwined roots of ancient trees. Continue your journey to Dawki, near the Indo–Bangladesh border, known for the breathtakingly clear Umngot River.Enjoy boating .where the boats appear to float in mid-air due to the transparency of the water. Also, visit the India–Bangladesh Friendship Bridge for memorable photographs. Relish lunch at a local restaurant during the trip.

Day 5 – Shillong → Kaziranga – Into the Wilds of Assam

After breakfast, check out and drive towards Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world-famous one-horned rhinoceros. The route passes through scenic valleys, lush tea gardens, and charming Assamese villages. Stop for lunch en route at a local restaurant. Upon arrival in Kaziranga, check in to your resort and relax. In the evening, Watch a Bihu Dance Show . End your day with a hearty Assamese- style dinner at the resort.

Day 6 – Kaziranga → Dirang – From Wildlife to. Land of Raising sun

Start your day early with an adventurous Elephant Safari inside Kaziranga National Park (subject to availability and park schedule). Experience the thrill of spotting rhinoceroses, elephants, swamp deer, and exotic bird species in their natural habitat. Return to the resort for breakfast, then check out and continue your journey to Dirang, the gateway to Arunachal . Stop for lunch en route at a local restaurant. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure. Enjoy dinner and rest after the long drive. Overnight stay at Dirang

  • afternoon: Cross into Nagaland via the Sonari border. The landscape shifts from the flat tea gardens of Assam to the steep, emerald hills of Mon.
  • Evening: Arrive in Mon Town. Check into a local guesthouse. Use the evening to stroll through the local market to see Konyak beadwork and traditional machetes (daos).
  • Stay: Mon Town.

“Headhunters & Borders”

Day 8: Arrival & The Ascent to Mon

  • Morning: Drive to Longwa Village (approx. 1.5–2 hours from Mon). This is one of the largest Konyak villages and sits right on the Indo-Myanmar border.
  • Highlight: Visit the Angh’s House. The international border literally passes through his house—he sleeps in India and eats in Myanmar!
  • Afternoon: Explore the village. You can walk up to the border pillars for a panoramic view of both countries. Meet the village elders, some of whom still bear the traditional facial tattoos of the headhunting era.
  • Evening: Experience a traditional Konyak meal in a village homestay.
  • Stay: Longwa Village (Homestays here are basic but offer the most authentic experience).

Day 9: The Tribal Heartland (Chui & Hongphoi)

  • Morning: Depart Longwa and head to Chui Village. This village is famous for its traditional wood-carved houses and the preservation of Konyak heritage.
  • Afternoon: Visit Hongphoi Village. This is one of the best places to meet the remaining “tattooed headhunters.” The elders here are often very welcoming and may share stories of their youth (often through a translator).
  • Late Afternoon: Return to Mon Town or stop by Shangnyu Village, home to a 500-yearold wooden carving believed to have been crafted by heavenly bodies.
  • Stay: Mon Town.

Day 10: History & Heritage

  • Morning: Visit the Kohima War Cemetery. This moving memorial honors the soldiers who stopped the Japanese advance during WWII. The famous epitaph reads: “When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.”
  • Afternoon: Head to Kisama Heritage Village (12 km from Kohima). This is the permanent site of the Hornbill Festival. You can explore the Morungs (traditional communal huts) of all 16 major tribes, even during the off-season.
  • Late Afternoon: Visit Kigwema Village, one of the oldest Angami villages, known for its traditional wooden houses and intricate carvings.
  • Stay: Kohima.

Day 11: Farewells & Departure

  • Morning: Visit the Nagaland State Museum in Kohima to see a curated collection of tribal artifacts, jewelry, and weapons.
  • Mid-day: Drive back down to Dimapur (3 hours).
  • Afternoon: Catch your flight or train from Dimapur for your onward journey.
